In Chinese medicine, this is often described as:
- Spleen Qi Deficiency (poor transformation)
- Stomach Qi Rebellion (upward symptoms like reflux)
- Liver attacking Spleen (stress disrupting digestion)
- Damp accumulation (heaviness, bloating, mucus)
The food becomes the scapegoat.
But the real issue is the terrain.
Thatâs why one week you tolerate a food⌠and the next week it wrecks you.
Because itâs not always the food.
Itâs the state of your system that day.
Many people get trapped in this cycle:
Feel bad â cut foods â feel slightly safer â become more reactive â cut more foods.
Soon theyâre eating six âsafe foodsâ and still bloated.
Why?
Because overly restrictive eating can:
- reduce digestive resilience
- create food fear and hypervigilance
- lower meal satisfaction and signaling
- reduce microbiome diversity
- increase stress around eating
- weaken digestive confidence
From a TCM perspective, excessive restriction often weakens the Middle Burner.
Translation:
Your digestive center gets weaker when constantly deprived, stressed, cold, or underfed.
